A BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH OF THE ELDER KAREN ELAINE JOHNSON
Motto:
He that Winneth souls is wise Proverbs 11:30
Elder Johnson is a native of Harrisburg, born to the late Champ
Clark, Sr. and Johanna Clark. She is the mother of three
children, Louis Jr., Shariah and Tertius and the grandmother of ten
children.
SPIRITUAL
As
a child, Elder Johnson and her siblings grew up attending St. Paul
Baptist church in Harrisburg, PA. she often shares fond memories of
Pastor Rev. Franklin Henley. In 1977 as a young woman she gave her
life to the Lord and was baptized. During her years at Harrisburg
Revival Center she served faithfully on the choir, Usher Board, and
cleaning committee. Her powerful witness led many souls to Christ.
In 1982 she began attending, and later joined, the “House of God,
Which is the Church of the Living God, the Pillar and Ground of
Truth Without Controversy.” Elder Johnson was called to the
ministry in 1983, and diligently served as Youth Coordinator, State
and local Secretary, Sunday Bible School Teacher, musician,
evangelist, transportation coordinator, Assistant Pastor, and
Pastor, under her mentor Bishop Henry Dillard D.D. It was here she
also developed a dynamic street ministry and began conducting
revivals.As the Lord continued to
develop her and elevate her in the ministry she began serving at the
Bible Fellowship Christian Church, where she served as Associate
Pastor. Elder Johnson continued to work in the community as an
evangelist, while also serving as a Youth Advisor and coordinator,
and Sunday Bible School Superintendent. Here she spearheaded the
church remodeling project, and established the church’s community
Food Bank.
Led of the Lord, Elder Johnson responded to a
call to serve on the staff of Fountain Gate Church. In August 1995,
she was ordained Elder and served as Elder of Finance, and Elder of
Education.
A great inspiration to her, Elder George
Washington of Highland Street Church of the Living God, encouraged
her to visit his church because they were in need of a Pastor. And
in November 1996, she became acting Pastor, and subsequently Pastor.
Elder Johnson was appointed as State Elder, and also served as State
Sunday School Superintendent, Ordination Committee Chairperson, and
conducted workshops for ministers and layman. Elder Johnson worked
diligently, preaching and teaching the word of God that souls would
be saved and restored.
By faith, in 1999, she received a mandate from
the Lord to find and purchase a building, for the purpose of
establishing an urban ministry, so Elder Johnson with help from her
family and the Atterberry family and a few close friends started
Praise and Worship Center Ministries. The ministry has been
blessed, and a blessing to the community, which has embraced it and
her. In this, the Highland Street Church continues to inspire and
support her to reach her goals and aspirations in Christ.
She gives much thanks to Bishop John E Broomer
and General Elder Frank Harvey for their financial assistance.
Elder Johnson enjoys people and possesses
genuine kindness and concern for others. She seeks challenges and
opportunities as she grows spiritually and professionally.
The Lord continues to use Elder Johnson, and she
continues in obedience to challenge the church to hear and obey God,
and to understand the times and the season we are in.
